Artist Bio
Ken Joslin was born on June 8, 1967 in Los Angeles, California and grew up in Lynwood, CA. His paintings are created in Long Beach, CA, where he works full time on his paintings. Ken was recognized at an early age for his creative drive and was inspired by his elementary and high school teachers. Encouraged by family and friends, Ken studied art throughout secondary school. After high school graduation, he attended Otis Parsons College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, CA, where he majored in Illustration and Painting. Ken's figurative abstract painting style has been influenced by artist such as Jacob Lawrence, George A. Hunt, Joseph Holston, William Tolliver, and Robert Gwathmey. His work is created in an abstract figurative style and has been described as "liberating" and "powerful." His use of bold color and heavily-textured canvas create an energy of movement on the canvas and are unique to his painting style, enticing the viewer to step closer to his work. ARTIST STATEMENT I create works of art for the sole purpose of ownership. However, ownership of a Ken Joslin Original is not limited to the exchange of commerce for a work of art. True ownership is the result of identifying with, celebrating, and connecting with the works of art on a truly meaningful level. Ownership means following your dreams, and owning your calling. Ownership means never settling for less, and owning your greatness. Ownership means taking the initiative, and owning your actions. And this is what I offer with every Ken Joslin Original – the opportunity to own an idea, a passion, a tangible connection with an extraordinary work of art. And when you have the opportunity to connect with, identify with, or celebrate any one of my works, then by all means, consider yourself an owner. ABOUT MY WORK My featured paintings are in the abstract figurative style with hints of cubism, and are characterized by careful attention to color, form, line and composition. I want the characters in my work to engage viewers so completely that they are drawn into and become a part of each individual composition. The works are executed by employing simple, uncluttered shapes to reduce and refine subjects to basic forms and figures. |
